Our beliefs

When it comes to the teaching and learning of RE, we believe that children need to be given the opportunity to discuss and question, share and debate, observe and listen and most of all, have understanding of the importance of Christian values and how these can be intertwined into everything we do.

We base our teaching of RE on the Gloucestershire 2017-2022 syllabus, which incorporates the ‘Understanding Christianity’ approach. RE is taught weekly across the school, on a rolling program to ensure appropriate coverage from Nursery right through to Year 2. We use real objects, pictures, read stories or role play, to enable children to become fully immersed in what we are teaching and be able to ‘get involved’ in their learning. Our aims

At Field Court Infant Academy, we aim for children to gain knowledge and understanding of the world around them, to see the wonder in everything and develop discussion and questioning skills that will equip them for taking on board knowledge about religion, faiths, beliefs, people and families, as they themselves grow and develop into unique and individual people. We want children to become confident in sharing their ideas and thoughts, open to taking on board new ideas, resilient to stand up for what they believe and supportive of each other. As a Christian school, we facilitate children’s understanding of their place in God’s world and make the links between core Christian values and how these can help shape the people they are through their behaviour, reactions and interactions with others.

In an RE lesson at Field Court Infants you will see

• Use of real objects, photos, pictures, books and reading of stories.
• Reflection areas being referred to or accessed by the children during continuous provision.
• Consistency in the use of suitable Bibles (primarily The Big Bible Storybook) and ‘RE Big Books’ to record our RE teaching and learning.
• Children involved and working together.
• Children and adults talking, discussing, questioning and listening together.
